Sofwave

Sofwave is a non‑invasive ultrasound treatment that uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology to deliver focused heat at about 1.5 mm into the mid‑dermis, where collagen‑producing fibroblasts sit, without damaging the surface or deeper fat and muscle layers. This controlled thermal injury (around 60–70°C) denatures old collagen and triggers neocollagenesis and elastogenesis, leading to gradual tightening, improved elasticity and softening of fine lines and wrinkles over the following weeks to months.

  • Sofwave emits seven parallel ultrasound beams at once, creating a 3D pattern of coagulation zones in the mid‑dermis while integrated Sofcool™ contact cooling protects the epidermis. The ultrasound energy is precisely focused at 1.5 mm, a fibroblast‑rich layer, so collagen and elastin fibres are remodelled and new matrix is laid down, improving skin firmness and “snap” without heating the SMAS or destroying subcutaneous fat. By avoiding deeper structures, Sofwave reduces the risk of fat atrophy or nerve injury seen with some older high‑intensity ultrasound systems, while still achieving clinically meaningful tightening.

  • Sofwave is FDA‑cleared to improve facial lines and wrinkles, and to lift the eyebrows, submental (under‑chin) tissue and neck tissue, with studies showing improvement in laxity and fold depth in the lower face and neck. In practice, it is used for: mid‑face and jawline definition, jowls, nasolabial and marionette lines, neck crepiness, and subtle eyebrow lift, as well as overall tightening and textural improvement in suitable candidates.

  • Most patients have a single full treatment to the face and/or neck, with the option of a second session several months later if additional tightening is desired. During treatment, the skin feels intense, brief bursts of heat with each ultrasound pulse; contact cooling and gel are used to improve comfort, and no injections or incisions are required. Afterwards, the skin may be mildly red or puffy for a few hours but usually returns to normal very quickly, so Sofwave is often described as a “lunchtime” procedure with minimal social downtime.

  • Some patients notice a subtle immediate tightening from collagen contraction, but the main results develop gradually over 8–12 weeks as new collagen and elastin are produced and matrix is remodelled. Improvements in jawline definition, brow position and neck lines can last around a year or more, depending on age, skin quality and lifestyle, after which repeat treatment can be considered. Clinical studies of high‑intensity parallel‑beam ultrasound devices at 1.5 mm depth show good safety and significant tightening in the lower face with low rates of adverse events when energy settings and protocols are followed appropriately.
